Die Faustus Die!
by Khairuddin Hori and Gene
Sha Rudyn
"Die Faustus Die!" is a Rock
Operetta, a mind-blowing, music and movement riff on the play by Christopher
Marlowe based on The History of the Damnable Life and Deserved Death of
Dr John Faustus. It features original live music specially composed for
the performance by award-winning band Westside. With this musical accompaniment,
Dr Faustus re-lives his rendezvous with death and the devil through song,
dance and acrobatics.
"Die Faustus Die!" marks the birth of a collective of two visions
- Naga
Naga and Pass-Ra, informal independent companies set up by Khairuddin
Hori and Gene Sha Rudyn, respectively. Khairuddin Hori has been establishing
a portfolio of work rich in Visual Abstraction, Internal Reflection and
Religious Spiritual Content, while Gene Sha Rudyn has been seeking to
realize Communities engaged in Free Dialogues and Improvised Conversations.
This fusion of philosophies has in the past commanded dynamic and unorthodox
approaches that have conjured surprising results for both audience and
artist.
Khairuddin Hori, trained at the Nanyang Academy
of Fine Arts, was awarded a French Government Overseas Scholarship for
his sojourn in Paris in 1995. Through 1997-1999, he was part of the driving
force behind Teater Ekamatra's revival, assuming the role of Associate
Director, conceptualising, directing and collaborating on "Dhavusya",
"Tuah Jebat Tamengsari" , "Thamar" and "Bulan
Madu".
Gene Sha Rudyns
performing credits stretch from TV sitcoms to progressive Movement Theatre
performances in Yokohama and Artrage2000 in Perth. As a theatre director,
he is known in the Singapore Malay Theatre scene for his provocative minimalist
and 'cruel' works as in "causeway", Win! and Anak
Bulan Di Kampong Wa Hassan. He was Associate Director of Teater
Ekamatra (1998-2000) and Director-In-Residence of Education & Theatre
Consultants Singapore (2001). For more information about this accomplished

Westside
has been a forerunner in the Singapore Alternative Music scene for the
past decade. At the core of her music is Rock and Roll, although her
openness embraces other musical genres like folk, blues, pop, techno and
trip-hop. This aural concoction amalgamates into psychedelic progressive
rock. In 1998, she was given the MTV Breakthrough Award and was Grand
Prize winner at the MTV/Yamaha Band Alert, with Akie and Sab given the
accolades of Best Guitarist and Best Vocalist, respectively. Please visit
